Why Renewable Energy Matters

Clean, Affordable, Reliable

Wind and solar are inexhaustible resources that are vastly untapped across the United States. Electricity that is generated from wind and solar is clean, affordable, and reliable; and along with the development of other renewable technologies, it will help the nation break its dependence on foreign energy resources. Developing these resources will benefit the environment by reducing toxic emissions and help address issues related to global climate change. The growth of renewable energy technologies in the Mid-Atlantic region has and will continue to be an economic development driver, bringing green industry and clean sector jobs to the region.

Promoting the Growth of Renewable Energy in the Mid-Atlantic Region

The Mid-Atlantic Renewable Energy Coalition, or MAREC, is a nonprofit Pennsylvania corporation founded in 2009. MAREC is a coalition of wind energy companies, solar companies, wind turbine manufacturers, and public interest organizations dedicated to promoting the growth and development of renewable energy in the Mid-Atlantic region. The primary areas of focus of MAREC are to provide education and expertise on the environmental sustainability of wind and solar energy; offer technical expertise and advice to assist in understanding the operating and environmental impacts of integrating wind and solar into the electrical power system; and promote fair policies, rules and regulations to expand the region’s electric transmission system to accommodate the growth of renewable energy generation.

A New Format for an Existing Cause

Introducing MAREC Action!

Like renewable energy, MAREC is renewing itself in the most efficient format to further our cause. MAREC Action holds the same values and beliefs but is registered as a 501(c)(4). More on that below:

Our 501(c)(3) nonprofit, commonly called “charitable” organizations, that is focused on education efforts and is significantly restricted in how much political and legislative (lobbying) activities it may conduct.

MAREC Action

A 501(c)(4) nonprofit, commonly called “social welfare” organizations, that may engage in political activities, as long as these activities do not become their primary purpose.

MAREC Action serves as an advocate and unified voice of the utility-scale renewable energy and storage industry members in the Mid-Atlantic region. Specifically, we specialize in state energy & environment policy, state and regional regulatory affairs, and electricity market rules. We support the development of policies that grow renewable energy technologies to improve our environment, diversify our electric generation portfolio, and boost economic development in the Mid-Atlantic region. The region includes 10 jurisdictions: New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, the District of Columbia, Kentucky, West Virginia, and North Carolina.
