MAREC Action recently sat down to chat with Isaac Meyer, a clean energy business leader and our Board Treasurer. Isaac brings a wealth of experience to our organization, and we wanted to learn more about his background.

Question: Can you tell us a bit about your experience prior to your current role?

I was a contract lobbyist in Maryland for a decade prior to joining EDP Renewables. During my time as a contract lobbyist with Compass Advocacy, I had the privilege of representing MAREC Action before the Maryland General Assembly. The opportunity afforded me a crash course in renewable energy and allowed me to work on key issues like permitting and RPS expansion.

Question: What is your role at EDP Renewables North America?

In North America, EDP Renewables is a market-leading developer, owner, and operator that delivers renewable energy solutions across the continent. We have 10,400 MW installed capacity in the United States, 580+ MW in Canada, and 400+ MW in Mexico.

I manage government and community affairs at the company. My state profile aligns closely with the PJM member states, so the MAREC footprint is a perfect match. Additionally, my role is increasingly becoming focused on project-level work, ensuring we are in the best position to permit projects in the communities we work in.

Question: What led you to get involved with our organization, and what drew you to the role of treasurer?

This moment is critical for the renewable energy industry. We must not only protect our industry at the federal level but maximize our market at the state level. As treasurer, I can play a role in identifying and advocating for opportunities to deploy MAREC funds strategically to meet these goals.

Question: What is one thing that people would be surprised to learn about you?

I coach the Baltimore Banners, a youth ice hockey team based in Baltimore City, and comprised of underserved kids. It is an amazing program with amazing kids!
